Campus Involvement

Looking for ways to strengthen your impact on campus? How about investing in your organization and its members?

Leadership Connection provides members of your student organization an opportunity to grow through meaningful exploration of topics like collaboration, social change, critical thinking, and reflection. Participants will leave with action items and next steps on how to continue their organization’s growth.  

There is no cost to selected participants. Student organizations are identified through an application process.

Update on Leadership Connection 2020

To ensure the safety and security of our staff and participants, we have decided that we are not able to host the in-person retreat experience in early May. In lieu of the in-person experience, the LC Lead Team is committed to delivering a Leadership Connection experience through virtual and digital engagement. This program will be offered in the following format:

  • Four days of virtual engagement with our staff, other student organizations, and your own delegation (3-5 members of your org).
  • A daily committment of 4-5 hours, to include workshop content, small group discussion, and direct work with your org
  • Access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone and internet connection are required, and access to a webcam is strongly encouraged

Throughout the past few weeks, student organizations have voiced the need for help and guidance through this uncertain time. Our team remains committed to providing this in a way that best meets your needs. Our program outcomes remain the same: to provide you with the knowledge, skills, connections, and support you need to achieve the goals of your organization.

We understand that some student organizations were not able to apply by the March 16th deadline, so we are reopening our application through Sunday, April 19th. For organizations who have already submitted their application, there is no need to reapply if you are still interested in attending Leadership Connection.

Leadership Connection is hosted by the Center for Campus Involvement, in partnership with the Ginsberg Center for Service Learning and Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs.

*This year's Leadership Connection retreat coincides with the observance of Ramadan. It is important to the Leadership Connection team that everyone can participate in this experience, and we will work to ensure our program accommodates prayer times as well as additional breaks and rest as needed.

The Leadership Connection retreat provides student organization delegations the opportunity to think deeply about and engage in group development. Key concepts and activities such as mission and values, organizational culture, communication and facilitation, inclusive leadership, collaboration, and action planning are designed to help strengthen your student organization. Participants will leave with action items and next steps on how to continue their organization’s growth.

2020 Facilitator Information & Application

University of Michigan full-time employees who are open to learning and growing with student leaders are eligible to apply to serve as a facilitator at Leadership Connection, an in-depth development retreat for student organizations.
