The annual SORC Winter reservation period opened on November 30, 2017.

There are 3 reservation periods per year for SORC advertising services:  Spring/Summer, Fall, and Winter.  The Winter reservation period encompasses January 21 through May 7, 2018.  The lottery is not a one-day process, but rather a series of staggered deadlines and appointments to help you reserve everything you need in a structured, know-when-to-be-there format.  This minimizes the amount of waiting and allows you to do as much as possible from the convenience of your computer.

SORC offers 7 different methods of advertising; four of them are reserved via lottery, and three are first-come, first-serve.  But first, here is the general timeline for planning purposes.

 

Winter Advertising Timeline

Note: for the Spring/Summer lottery, which includes placement dates between May 7 - September 24, you can expect a similar timeline starting just after Spring Break.

December 1    Online reservation requests for Bus Signs, Glass Showcases and Digital Ads opened on November 29.  There is no deadline to reserve these spaces, per se, but there is a limited number of spaces.  When they're full, they're full.  Applications for Diag boards and Banner Poles opened on November 30.  Applications for the Table Tent lottery and Michigan Union banner will be open no later than December 1.

January 4 10PM    Online lottery applications close; random drawing will be conducted over the weekend for appointments on January 9 or January 10. 

  • Diag banner appointments are January 9; Diag board appointments are January 10.
  • If you submit a lottery application for both Diag boards and Diag banners, you will have two appointments.

January 6-7 (over the weekend)  Lottery results vetted and posted.

January 9 (Tuesday) In-person reservations for Diag banner poles, afternoon.

January 10 (Wednesday) In-person reservations for Diag boards, afternoon/evening.

January 7-11  In-person and electronic reservations for first-round winners of Table Tents (no appointment needed).

January 11 Payment due for spaces reserved during lottery appointments, 6:00 p.m..  First deadline for Table Tent winners.

January 12 In-person reservations for Diag boards and banners continue until spaces are filled (no appointment needed).  Will begin at 11:30 a.m.

January 12 Table tent and Michigan Union banner reservations continue until spaces are filled (winners listed on website; can reserve space and complete contract in person or via email).

 

 

Services via lottery

Online lottery applications for Lottery services are open as of 11/30/17. The deadline to apply for the lottery for any of these services is Thursday, January 4 at 10PM.

Diag boards  

  • There is a lottery for appointment times; the deadline to apply for the lottery is January 4 at 10PM.  
  • If you entered the lottery, you will have an appointment on Wednesday, January 10 in the afternoon/evening.  Click here to see appointment times (posted 6:10PM on 1/5/18).
  • If you did not enter the lottery, or if you miss your lottery appointment on January 10, you can reserve spaces starting at 12PM. on Friday, January 12.  No appointment is necessary.

Banner Poles

  • There is a lottery for appointment times; the deadline to apply for the lottery is January 4 at 10PM.  
  • If you entered the lottery, you will have an appointment on Tuesday, January 9 in the afternoon.  Click here to see appointment times (posted 5:55PM on 1/5/18).
  • If you did not enter the lottery, or if you miss your lottery appointment on January 9, you can reserve spaces starting at 12PM. on Friday, January 12.  No appointment is necessary.

Table Tents

  • There is a lottery for the space, but it is not necessary to come to SORC at a specific time to accept the space if you win; it can be done either via email or in person.
  • The deadline to apply for the lottery is January 4 at 10PM.  
  • If you entered the lottery, check this website sometime between January 8-10 to see if you won.  Instructions will be provided. 
  • If you did not enter the lottery, e-mail sundholm@umich.edu to be added to the wait list.

Michigan Union Banner

  • There is an application process, but a lottery usually isn't necessary. 
    • Groups are asked to indicate their event date and ideal placement time.
    • The SORC Manager is usually able to negotiate a schedule that suits all partie's needs.
    • However, if there are two groups with the exact same needs and a compromise cannot be reached, a random winner will be selected.
  • The deadline for first-round consideration for Michigan Union banner placement is January 4 at 10PM.  Apply for Michigan Union Banner space here
  • If you submitted a request, check this website sometime before January 10 to see if you won.  Instructions will be provided.
  • If you did not enter the lottery, e-mail sundholm@umich.edu to be added to the wait list.

 

 

Services via First come, First Serve
