The annual SORC Spring-Summer reservation period opened in late March.

 

There are 3 reservation periods per year for SORC advertising services:  Spring-Summer, Fall, and Winter.  The Spring-Summer reservation period encompasses May 7 through September 24, 2018.  The lottery is not a one-day process, but rather a series of staggered deadlines and appointments to help you reserve everything you need in a structured, know-when-to-be-there format.  This minimizes the amount of waiting and allows you to do as much as possible from the convenience of your computer.

SORC is open 10AM-6PM* through Wednesday, April 25 for personal assistance.  We will be closed from 4/26 through 5/1.  Spring/Summer hours, 11AM-4PM weekdays, will begin on Wednesday, May 2.

*We will be closing at 5:00 on Thursday, April 19 for a staff celebration.

 

Spring-Summer-September Advertising Timeline

SORC offers 7 different methods of advertising; 4 of them are reserved via lottery, and 3 are first-come, first-serve.  But first, here is the general timeline for planning purposes.

March 30    Applications for Diag boards and Banner Poles opened in late March.  

April 13 6PM    Online lottery applications close; random drawing conducted over the weekend for appointments on April 18. 

  • All appointments take place between 10:15AM-5:30PM
  • You will be able to reserve both Diag boards and Banner Poles at the same appointment (this is different for the Fall and Winter lotteries, based on demand).
  • Deep discounts are extended for reservations between May 7 - August 26.  
  • Table Tents are not available in the summer; they resume August 26.
  • The Michigan Union banner is not available during the renovation (May 2018 through Winter 2020).

April 15 (over the weekend)  Lottery results vetted and posted.

April 16   Online reservation requests for Spring-Summer-September Bus Signs, Glass Showcases and Digital Ads open.  There is no deadline to reserve these spaces, per se, but there is a limited number of spaces.  When they're full, they're full. 

 

April 16  EXTENDED TO May 11  Deadline to apply for September Table Tents (available only 8/26-9/23)  APPLY NOW FOR TABLE TENT LOTTERY

April 18 (Wednesday) In-person reservation appointments for Diag boards and Diag Banner Poles, 10:15-5:30.

April 19   Walk-in reservations for Diag boards and Diag Banner Poles resume.  No appointment needed.

April 20, 12PM  Payment due for spaces reserved on 4/18 or 4/19.  If you need to request an extension, ask to talk to Betsy anytime before this deadline.

May 11  Deadline to apply for September Table Tents (available only 8/26-9/23)  APPLY NOW FOR TABLE TENT LOTTERY

 

Note: for the Fall lottery, which includes placement dates between September 24 - January 21, 2019, you can expect a timeline that is similar, but much lengthier.  Applications are open all summer.  A couple of key dates:

May 14  Lottery applications for Fall Diag Boards, Banners, and Table Tents open (remain open all summer)

July 9  Online reservation requests for Fall Bus Signs, Glass Showcases, and Digital Ads open.  

 

 

Services via lottery

The Spring-Summer lottery opened in late March.  Lottery appointments take place on April 18.  After that, we accept walk-in reservations during regular business hours.

Diag boards and Diag Banner Poles  

  • There is a lottery for appointment times; the deadline to apply for the lottery was April 13 at 6PM.  
    • If you entered the lottery, you will have an appointment on Wednesday, April 18 between 10:15AM-5:30PM.  Click here to see appointment times.
    • If you did not enter the lottery, or if you miss your lottery appointment on April 18, you can reserve spaces starting at 10AM on Thursday, April 19.  No appointment is necessary, but selection may be limited.
    • Diag board space rental is free between 5/7-8/26.  Banner Pole space is 50% off.

Table Tents

  • Table Tents are not available between April 22 and August 26.
  • There is a lottery for the four weeks between August 26 and September 23. 
  • The deadline to apply for the lottery is April 13 at 6PM extended to May 11!  
  • If you entered the lottery, check this website the week of May 14 to see if you won.  Instructions will be provided. 
  • It is not necessary to come to SORC at a specific time to accept the space if you win; it can be done either via email or in person.  However, if you are on the wait list, it will behoove you to check the SORC website at least once a week for updates.  
  • If you did not enter the lottery, e-mail sundholm@umich.edu to be added to the wait list.

Michigan Union Banner

  • The Michigan Union Banner is not available during the renovation (May 2018 through Winter 2020).

 

Services via First come, First Serve

Online reservation requests for Bus Signs, Glass Showcases and Digital Ads opened on April 16.  There is no deadline to reserve these spaces, per se, but there is a limited number of spaces.  When they're full, they're full.
