COVID-19 Impacts on CCI Events & Registration

Last Updated: March 30, 2020 | 2:50 p.m.

The University of Michigan is taking active ways to prevent the acceleration of COVID-19 while remaining available and accessible to you and your organizations. CCI knows there are uncertainties and difficulties with this time, and appreciate your questions about the impact on you and your student organizations.

We are open and available to you virtually. Here are the things you need to know about impacts on events, student organization registration, and student organization workspaces in University Unions.

Impact on Events

  • All on-campus and off-campus events are canceled until April 21. This mandate comes from the University of Michigan to limit large social gatherings, as well as in accordance with the Governor's "Stay Home, Stay Safe" executive order made on March 23.

  • Previously scheduled events are encouraged to find alternative ways to connect. Consider virtual or remote options. All individuals are encouraged to practice healthy habits including hand-washing, use of tissues and social distancing practices.

    • The CDC recommends social distancing, meaning “remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.”

  • International travel is restricted by the University.

  • Domestic travel is strongly discouraged, including personal and organizational travel. Please contact Logistics, Transportation and Parking (LTP) with any fleet vehicle cancelations. LTP will still hold reservations for student organizations.

  • Official University travel policies another frequently asked questions can be found at:

Impact on Registration & Fests

  • Knowing that this is a challenging time for student organizations who are finding ways to recalibrate their semester plans and goals, student organization registration and Festifall and Northfest applications have been delayed.

  • Both Student Org Registration and applications for Festifall and Northfest will be available starting on April 1st, rather than March 15th as previously communicated. Please check the CCI website pages for updates.

Impact on the IdeaHub

  • The IdeaHub is closed to the public and university community. If there are additional changes to operational hours, we will communicate that widely, and keep the hours up-to-date on the CCI website at:

  • IdeaHub room reservations have been canceled. Please contact with questions about this policy.

  • Student organization support, resources, and advising remain available to you. The Center for Campus Involvement remains open remotely, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please contact by phone (734-763-5900) or by email (, and continue checking for updates.

  • The Michigan Union remains open with reduced building hours; University Unions encourages social distancing practices in mind. Pierpont Commons and the Michigan League are closed, effective Thursday, March 26. Please visit for the latest University Unions updates, including building hours.

  • University Unions has implemented additional cleaning measures on top of normal procedures for everyone’s health and safety including additional cleaning, availability of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.

  • Social distancing is encouraged in community spaces.

Please always check the University’s COVID-19 page for the latest developments and updates on University-wide policies. The Center for Campus Involvement will continue communicating with student organizations about impacts University policies may have for student groups. Thank you for your leadership and care for our community.
