1. Our SSO wants to enter into a contract. Who should sign it?
SSOs follow the contract approval process of their sponsoring University unit. The contract is signed by the individual authorized by the regents (see Signature Authority Tables/Authority to Contract webpage for more information).
It is important to have a contract when University resources or money is being exchanged for goods or services.
When an SSO is contemplating a contract, as the sponsor, you should be there with the students. Remember that in general, when an SSO enters into a contract, the University also enters into that contract.
You should be clear with the SSO about the proper process for entering contracts in your unit, including information about who has the authority to sign contracts, necessary lead time, and special requirements.
If you decide to decline a contract, help the SSO seek alternatives.
