Diag Boards: Availability

AVAILABILITY

Diag boards are effective and inexpensive, so they are very high in demand. There is a drawing at the beginning of each semester for first-round reservation appointments. SORC does not assign Diag board locations to specific groups; rather, each group is assigned an appointment time at random. A representative of your group chooses from the available locations at your appointment time. Earlier appointments have better selection of the "good" spaces. After first-round appointments, we accept reservations by request.

  • Fall reservation appointments take place in August
  • Winter reservation appointments take place in December
  • Summer reservation appointments are more relaxed. As of 2022, there is no drawing. Reservations open in March or early April; spaces can be reserved by request.

Timeline / How and When to Reserve spaces

  • During first-round appointments (more info about the process here), spaces can only be reserved by appointment. To get a first-round appointment, you must submit an application. If you don't submit an application, you may get an appointment after first-round appointments are complete. Note: selection is typically limited after first-round appointments, so it is to your group's advantage to submit an application for the first round!
  • Limits are imposed during the first round, but in the second round, your organization may reserve as many diag board spaces as your budget will allow (some exceptions apply).
    • Fall/Winter limit: 2 spaces per week, not to exceed 32* spaces in one reservation period.
      • The number of weeks in a reservation period varies from 13 weeks to 17 weeks. In the case of a 13-week period, the limit is 26 spaces. For a 14-week period, the limit is 28 spaces...and so on.
      • Summer limit: 4 spaces per week.
    • Even after first-round appointments, we impose the limit during the "peak" recruiting time of late August through late September.
  • There is a list of available locations below, but we update it manually, about once a week. To find out exactly which spaces are available, you can call 734-764-0436 during regular business hours or email us and tell us which week(s) you are interested in, bearing in mind that choosing locations is a visual process that works best in a face-to-face, interactive setting. Zoom and Google Meet both work very nicely, but if you'd like us to help you in person, we can do that too!

Timeline / How and When to Reserve spaces

  • During the first round of advertising reservations, which happens in April, August, and December (more info about the process below), spaces can only be reserved by appointment. To get a first-round appointment, you must submit an application before a specified deadline (about 4-5 days before we start taking reservations). If you don't submit an application for the first round, you can schedule an appointment for the second round. Note: selection is typically very limited after the first round of appointments (some weeks there are no banner spaces available at all), so it is to your group's advantage to apply in advance!
  • Limits are imposed during the first round of reservations (2 Diag board spaces per week), but after the first round, your organization may reserve as many Diag board spaces as your budget will allow. Even after the first round of appointments, we impose the 2-per-group limit during the "peak" recruiting time of late August through mid-September.
    • Fall limit: 1 space per week, not to exceed 3 spaces in the Fall reservation period.
    • Winter limit: 1 space per week, not to exceed 3 spaces in the Winter reservation period. If demand is light, we will increase this limit to 4 weeks.
    • Summer limit: varies by year.
