Safer Disposal of Balloons

For most people, balloons are a fun way to brighten an event.  But if not disposed of properly, balloons create pollution and disruptive noise.  Here are some tips for safer alternatives when your event is over and you no longer need the balloons:

  • Don't pop the balloons.  This can be disruptive or alarming to people in the vicinity.  Instead, take a scissors and cut the latex just above the knot.  This will cause the helium/air to release slowly, making very little noise.
  • Detach the balloons from the strings.  If you ordered latex balloons from SORC, we attach them in a way that makes it easy.  Just grab the deflated latex and pull.  The balloon should come right off the string!  We are not able to attach mylar balloons this same way, so you will need to cut them.
  • Cut the strings and the foil off the weight.  We re-use the weights at SORC!  If you return them to us, we will take 5% off your next balloon order.
  • Chop the strings into tiny pieces.  This minimizes the negative impact on the environment by decreasing the likelihood that marine life will get caught in the strings.
